Edith Holt studio pottery vase in bottle shape or bottle kiln design. This piece is unusual being produced from red earthenware clay as she is more well known for mainly working in high-quality stoneware and porcelain products, including tiles, dishes, and garden sculptures.
The body of vase has been cut/grooved from the shoulders to about half way down with black, brown/red added drip glaze covering the the grooved designs.
One of the notable features of Edith Holt studio pottery is its distinctive crossed-stitched pattern, which is often used on her salt pigs and other ceramic items. This vase is a very early piece and dates from the 1970's and possibly made/thrown in her studio at Blenheim Drive, Oxford UK.
