Description
Cornish Tintagel Pottery oil/vinegar cruet jug, decorated orange and blue striped glaze on a red earthenware body with real pine cone stopper, possibly hand thrown by Enid Mutton or Roger Howard. The pottery was born in 1948 by the Norwegian potter, Egil Cunningham Quam with Kathleen Everard. Enid Mutton joined the pottery in 1948. Enid and her partner Roger Howard took over the pottery in January 1951. Leonard Knight worked at the pottery for a while before setting up his own pottery called Knight's of Tintagel. Jack Boundy also worked at the pottery before starting up Avalon Pottery.
Tintagel Pottery is noted for its distinctive dragon and dragon's eye decorations as well as commemorative pieces.
Materials: Red Clay, Earthenware, Multi Colour Drip Glazes.
Uses: Kitchen Tableware, Dining Serving, Dressings, Salads, Pulses.
Incised Mark Tintagel Cornwall.
Date: Circa 1948-1960.
Condition : Excellent, no cracks or chips.
With stopper 4.5 inch (11.4 cm) high x 3 inch ( 7.6 cm) in diameter x 4 inch in depth from front to back of handle.
